Abstract
La escolarización obligatoria resulta ser un tema que puede ser abordado desde múltiples perspectivas. Por una parte se presenta como un logro de la modernidad pero por otra como un asunto problemático en la medida en la que interfiere o puede interferir con la libertad educativa. En este artículo queremos discutir esta doble dimensión con el objetivo de clarificar y comprender de dónde vienen realmente los problemas de la escolarización. Entender estos problemas resulta imposible si no se comprende la particular historia española que articula esos debates y que necesitamos repasar siquiera sea someramente.
