Abstract

We hereby present an ethical and anthropological reflection on the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into academic education at all levels, in conjunction with family-based education. Ethical inquiry must always unfold within the framework of an anthropological universe. Our current educational system draws inspiration from the Greek concept of paideia. Today, however, we are called to formulate a new paideia, one that allows us to discern how AI might be meaningfully integrated into education as a whole. In this reflection, we outline several potential benefits of AI within educational contexts, while also acknowledging the considerable ethical risks its implementation entails. Our analysis is informed by a range of international norms, declarations, and legal frameworks relevant to the subject. We also reference an ongoing debate within the French educational community, which offers valuable insights into the tensions and possibilities surrounding AI in pedagogy. In conclusion, we affirm that the concepts of (human) intelligence, responsibility, and discernment must illuminate any discussion of AI in educational environments. These values should guide not only policy and practice, but also the deeper cultural and philosophical questions that AI inevitably raises
